Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Ethical Principles and Editorial Policy

The publication process of the CENK Journal is designed to present information objectively and transparently. Therefore, the processes implemented are reflected in the quality of the authors and the quality of the work of the institutions that support the authors. The reviewed articles embody and promote the scientific method. At this point, all stakeholders in the process (authors, readers, researchers, publishers, referees, and editors) must adhere to the standards related to ethical principles. The CENK Journal expects all stakeholders to bear the ethical responsibilities described below within the scope of publication ethics.

The ethical duties and responsibilities adopted by the CENK Journal are based on the guidelines and policies of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Acts Contrary to Scientific Research and Publication Ethics

Plagiarism: Presenting the ideas, methods, data, practices, writings, forms, or works of others as one's work, in whole or in part, without proper attribution to their owners by scientific rules.

Forgery: Producing data that is not based on research, editing or modifying the work presented or published based on untrue data, reporting or publishing them, or presenting research that has not been done as if it has been done.

Distortion: Distorting research records and data, misrepresenting methods, devices, and materials that were not used in the research, including data that are not under the research hypothesis, manipulating data and/or results to fit relevant theories or assumptions, misleading or shaping research results in line with the interests of the persons and organizations receiving support.

Republication: Presenting more than one work containing the same results of research as separate works in associate professorship exam evaluations and academic promotions.

Slicing: Presenting the results of research as separate works in associate professorship exam evaluations and academic promotions by inappropriately dividing the results of research into parts in a way that disrupts the integrity of research, and by making many publications without citing each other.

Unfair Authorship: Including people without active contribution among the authors, not including people with active contribution among the authors, changing the author ranking in an unjustified and inappropriate manner, removing the names of active contributors from the work during publication or in subsequent editions, using his/her influence to have his/her name included among the authors even though he/she has not made an active contribution;

Other Types of Ethical Violations: Failure to indicate the persons, institutions or organizations that provide support and their contributions to the research in the publications of the research conducted with support, failure to comply with ethical rules in research on humans and animals, failure to respect patient rights in publications, sharing the information contained in a work assigned to review as a referee with others before publication, misuse of resources, spaces, facilities and devices provided or allocated for scientific research, making completely groundless, unwarranted and deliberate accusations of ethical violations (YÖK Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive, Article 8).

Ethical Statement

  • It should be stated that copyright regulations are complied with for the intellectual and artistic works used.
  • Ethical rules must be followed in research on humans and animals.
  • For the use of scales, questionnaires, photographs, etc., belonging to others, permission from the owners must be obtained and specified.
  • In case presentations, it must be stated that the “Informed Consent Form” has been obtained.
  • If the research is conducted in the fields listed below, “Ethics Committee Permission” must be uploaded in the appendix of the study.

Research Requiring Ethics Committee Approval

  • All kinds of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from participants using survey, interview, focus group, observation, experiment, and interview techniques;
  • Use of humans and animals (including materials/data) for experimental or other scientific purposes;
  • Clinical research on humans;
  • Research conducted on animals;
  • Retrospective studies under the law on the protection of personal data.

Publication of Studies Based on Surveys and Interviews

CENK Journal adopts the Committee on Publication Ethics' (COPE) “Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” and “Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers” to provide ethical assurance in scientific periodical publishing.

In this context, the following points should be followed in the studies submitted to the journal:

  • Ethics committee approval must be obtained for research in all disciplines that require ethics committee approval, and this approval must be stated and documented in the article.
  • In studies requiring ethics committee approval, information about the approval (name of the committee, date, and number) should be included in the method section, and on one of the first/last pages of the article, and in case reports, information on the signing of the informed consent form should be included in the article.

Author's Responsibilities

  • Article Authorship: All authors listed as authors must have contributed significantly to the research. Other contributors should be listed as co-authors. Contributors should be referred to as ‘contributors’. In joint studies, the Corresponding Author should submit the manuscript to the journal with the consent of the other authors. Those who did not contribute directly to the research should not be listed as authors.
  • Authenticity and Reality: All data in the research must be real and authentic. The author should provide an objective discussion of the significance of the study based on accurate data. Deliberately presenting false information is unacceptable, unethical behavior.
  • Multiple, Unnecessary or Simultaneous Publication: The author should not attempt to publish the same research in more than one journal or to re-publish a previously published manuscript, and should abide by the ethics of scientific research and publication. Such attempts are unacceptable and unethical behavior.
  • References: It is obligatory to show/cite all sources utilized in the studies.
  • Disclosure and Conflict of Interest: All authors should disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that may affect the results or interpretation of the study. If financial support was received for the study, the sources should be indicated.
  • Correction of Published Studies: It is the responsibility of the author to inform the editor if any significant deficiency or inaccuracy is detected in the published study. The author should cooperate with the editorial team of our journal to take the necessary actions to correct the situation.
  • Manuscript Withdrawal: The author can withdraw the manuscript evaluated in the publication processes of our journal only at the pre-checking stage. Manuscripts cannot be withdrawn at other stages of the publication process.
  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors should aim to conduct and report original research. They should cite the works they have used appropriately. Unauthorized citation of other publications, including the author's work, is an important ethical problem and a criminal offense. When plagiarism is detected in studies submitted to our journal, it is immediately removed from the publication process. If it is detected after publication in our journal, the author and the work will be informed of the necessary corrections.
  • Double Blind Peer Reviewing: Since double blind refereeing is applied in our journal, author information should not be written in the article file.

Editorial Responsibilities

  • The Editorial Board has full responsibility and authority to accept or reject an article.
  • The Editorial Board does not have any conflict of interest regarding the articles it accepts or rejects.
  • In the publication process, studies are selected and evaluated according to scientific and academic criteria such as contribution to the field and originality.
  • When errors or omissions are detected in published research, it supports the publication or withdrawal of the correction.
  • Since the journal adopts double-blind refereeing, the names of the referees are withheld and not published.
  • The peer review process is central to the success of scientific publishing. Protecting and improving the peer review process is part of our commitment.
  • The CENK Journal sensitively takes the necessary measures in cases of violations of publishing ethics.
